Why does sweating cool the body?
Sweat on the skin absorbs heat from the body.
The sweat evaporates.
It changes into water vapour.
A large amount of heat leaves the body.
The body feels cool.
The physics concept involved is latent heat of vaporization. Heat must be absorbed before cooling occurs.
Exam tip: For full marks, don’t stop halfway. Write the complete chain: heat absorbed → evaporation → vapour formed → heat removed → body cools. That’s the scoring clue.
AHA! Sweat absorbs heat, body feels cool. Not by sight, but by INSIGHT!
