SPM Physics: AHA! Heart as a Pump – Bio × Math × Physics in One Beat!

Many students mistakenly “cut” subjects apart, thinking biology and physics are unrelated. But the heart as a pump proves otherwise:

  • Biology: The heart contracts and relaxes, pushing blood through arteries.

  • Physics: Pressure × Volume Flow Rate = Power.

  • Mathematics: Calculations with units, conversions, and rates give the numerical answer.

Example:

P=Wt=pΔVΔt

With p=1.5×104 Pa, ΔV=8×10−5 m3, heart rate = 70 min⁻¹, the average power of the heart is 1.4 W.

Biology gives the context. Physics gives the principle. Mathematics gives the number. Together, they explain life itself.

AHA! Moment

Physics teaches: the heart is a pump.
Biology teaches: the pump sustains life.
Mathematics teaches: every beat can be measured.

AHA! Don’t cut subjects apart. Bio × Math × Physics = One Insight. Not by sight, but by INSIGHT!
