Test An Electrical Outlet With A Multimeter

Hold the two leads in one hand (to prevent shock) and insert them into various slots on the socket to check voltage. To measure the voltage from the socket, insert one lead into the live terminal (right slot) and the other into the neutral terminal (left slot). Then check the voltage reading on the multimeter

 The digital multimeter beeps if a complete path (continuity) is detected.

Test Car Battery With a Multimeter

 

Connect the multimeter to the positive and negative battery terminals. If you don't have a voltage of around 12.6 volts, you may have a bad battery.
