Why does toothpaste flow out when you squeeze the tube?
A force is applied on the tube.
The force produces pressure inside the toothpaste.
According to Pascal’s Principle, the pressure is transmitted uniformly in all directions.
The toothpaste is pushed out through the nozzle.
Exam tip: For 2 marks, don’t stop halfway. Write both steps: pressure produced AND pressure transmitted in all directions. That’s the scoring clue.
This comic shows students that physics is practical — one squeeze, pressure everywhere!
AHA! Squeeze here, pressure everywhere. Not by sight, but by INSIGHT!
