Changing the colour of light is not just about red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, violet. In physics, each colour means seven different changes:
Frequency (f) → increases from red to violet
Refractive index (n) → increases from red to violet
Speed in medium (v) → decreases from red to violet
Wavelength (λ) → decreases from red to violet
Prism deviation angle → increases from red to violet
Critical angle (c) → decreases from red to violet
Double-slit fringe spacing (x) → decreases from red to violet
Exam tip: Don’t just memorize colours. Remember the acronym ROYGBIV and link it to physics properties. A single colour change can affect multiple exam answers—this is the Rainbow Trap that loves to appear in SPM!
AHA! One colour change, seven physics changes. Not by sight, but by INSIGHT!
