Two balls of the same material are dropped from the same height: one big, one small. Students often think: bigger ball → bigger air resistance → slower. But physics says otherwise.
- Ball A (larger radius):• Larger mass → larger weight• Air resistance increases, but weight increases more significantly• Final velocity higher, time shorter
- Ball B (smaller radius):• Smaller mass → smaller weight• Air resistance smaller, but weight much smaller too• Final velocity lower, time longer
SPM clue:
1️⃣ Both weight and air resistance increase with size.
2️⃣ But not equally.
3️⃣ Weight dominates → bigger ball falls faster.
Exam trap:
✗ Don’t focus on one factor only.
✓ Compare all effects → Cause → Effect → Result.
AHA! Bigger ball, bigger weight, faster fall. Not by sight, but by INSIGHT!
