SPM Physics: AHA! Floating Kayak: Balance of Forces

Why doesn’t a kayak sink when an athlete sits inside? The answer lies in Archimedes’ Principle and equilibrium.

The comic teaches the Buoyancy Insight Checklist:

  • Buoyant Force (Upthrust) acts upward.

  • Weight of Kayak + Athlete acts downward.

  • When both are equal → Resultant Force = 0 → Equilibrium → Kayak floats.

  • Formula:
    FB=ρgV
    .

  • Example: With total weight 1100 N, the displaced water volume is
    0.112m3
    .

Lesson: Floating is not magic, but balance. The kayak floats because upward and downward forces match perfectly. AHA! Moment: Physics teaches: buoyant force equals weight, equilibrium achieved. Life teaches: balance is the secret to staying afloat.

AHA! Kayak floats not by luck, but by balance. Not by sight, but by INSIGHT!
