SPM Physics Amali: Understanding the Bar Magnet
A bar magnet is a permanent magnet that has two poles: North (N) and South (S). It produces a magnetic field around it and is commonly used in Physics experiments involving magnetism.
👀 Key Observations | Pemerhatian Penting
✅ Setiap magnet mempunyai dua kutub: Utara (N) dan Selatan (S).
✅ Every magnet has two poles: North (N) and South (S).
✅ Dalam kebanyakan magnet makmal, warna Merah = Kutub Utara (N).
✅ In most laboratory magnets, Red = North Pole (N).
✅ Warna Biru = Kutub Selatan (S).
✅ Blue = South Pole (S).
✅ Medan magnet paling kuat di kawasan kutub magnet.
✅ The magnetic field is strongest at the poles.
❌ Common Mistakes
❌ Assuming all manufacturers use the same pole colours.
❌ Mengelirukan kutub Utara dan Selatan semasa eksperimen.
❌ Confusing the North and South poles during experiments.
❌ Menganggap magnet boleh mempunyai hanya satu kutub.
❌ Assuming a magnet can have only one pole.
❌ Tidak melabelkan kutub selepas menjalankan eksperimen kemagnetan.
❌ Failing to label the poles after performing magnetism experiments.
⚠️ Safety / Handling
⚠️ Avoid dropping the magnet as it may crack or break.
⚠️ Jauhkan daripada peranti elektronik sensitif.
⚠️ Keep away from sensitive electronic devices.
⚠️ Store magnets in pairs with a keeper whenever possible.
⚠️ Jangan panaskan magnet kerana haba boleh mengurangkan kemagnetannya.
⚠️ Do not heat the magnet as heat may reduce its magnetism.
🎯 SPM Exam Tip
📌 Kutub yang sama saling menolak.
📌 Like poles repel each other.
✅ N − N → Repel
✅ S − S → Repel
📌 Kutub yang berlainan saling menarik.
📌 Unlike poles attract each other.
✅ N − S → Attract
Spring Balance (10 N): Reading Technique, Common Mistakes & SPM Physics Tips
📦 Spring Balance (10 N)
A spring balance is used to measure force or weight. The reading is usually given in newtons (N).
👀 Cara Membaca | Reading Technique
✅ Hang the object vertically and wait for the pointer to become steady.
✅ Read the scale at eye level to avoid parallax error.
✅ Ensure the reading is taken from the correct Newton (N) scale.
✅ Semak nilai bahagian terkecil (least count) sebelum merekod bacaan.
✅ Check the smallest division (least count) before recording the reading.
❌ Common Mistakes
❌ Membaca skala dari sudut serong.
❌ Reading the scale from an angle.
❌ Mengambil bacaan ketika objek masih berayun.
❌ Taking readings while the object is still swinging.
❌ Mengelirukan unit N dengan gf (gram-force).
❌ Confusing N with gf (gram-force).
❌ Failing to check whether the pointer is at zero before use.
⚠️ Safety / Handling
⚠️ Jangan melebihi had maksimum 10 N.
⚠️ Do not exceed the maximum capacity of 10 N.
⚠️ Avoid dropping the spring balance as the internal spring may be damaged.
⚠️ Store the spring balance upright after use.
🎯 SPM Exam Tip
📌 Spring balance measures force, not mass.
📌 Neraca spring mengukur daya, bukan jisim.
📌 Unit SI bagi daya ialah Newton (N).
📌 The SI unit of force is Newton (N).
📌 Berat objek boleh dikira menggunakan:
📌 Weight of an object can be calculated using:
W = mg
where:
- W = Weight / Berat (N)
- m = Mass / Jisim (kg)
- g = Gravitational field strength / Kekuatan medan graviti (≈ 9.81 N kg⁻¹)
🔍 About This Spring Balance
✅ Maximum range: 0 N – 10 N
✅ Julat maksimum: 0 N – 10 N
✅ Smallest division: 0.2 N
✅ Bahagian terkecil: 0.2 N
✅ Dual scale available: N and gf
✅ Mempunyai dua skala: N dan gf
🧠 Did You Know?
🪝 Spring balances work based on Hooke's Law.
🪝 Neraca spring berfungsi berdasarkan Hukum Hooke.
📌 The extension of the spring is proportional to the applied force, provided the elastic limit is not exceeded.
SPM Physics Amali: How to Use a Plotting Compass
🧭 Plotting Compass
A plotting compass is used to determine the direction of magnetic field lines around a magnet or a current-carrying conductor.
👀 Cara Membaca | Reading Technique
✅ Place the compass on the paper and wait until the needle stops moving.
✅ Perhatikan arah hujung utara (N) jarum kompas.
✅ Observe the direction of the north-seeking (N) end of the compass needle.
✅ Tandakan arah jarum sebelum mengalihkan kompas ke kedudukan seterusnya.
✅ Mark the needle direction before moving the compass to the next position.
❌ Common Mistakes
❌ Menggerakkan kompas sebelum jarum menjadi stabil.
❌ Moving the compass before the needle has stabilised.
❌ Meletakkan kompas terlalu dekat antara satu sama lain sehingga bacaan terganggu.
❌ Placing compasses too close together, causing interference.
❌ Tersalah mengenal pasti hujung utara (N) dan selatan (S) jarum kompas.
❌ Misidentifying the north (N) and south (S) ends of the compass needle.
❌ Meletakkan objek logam berhampiran kawasan eksperimen.
❌ Placing metallic objects near the experiment area.
